Birthdays and Baby Showers!

In September, Vijay celebrated his 3rd Birthday! He enjoys his planes that Grampa and Nana sent, and some cake, too! He weighs 37 lbs. (90th percentile) and is 40.5" tall (97th percentile). We are very thankful for a healthy boy. At his B'day he was still saying only one word at a time and we couldn't really understand the rest of his talking. But we have seen progress since then and now he is saying two or three words together. He understands everything we say and responds well. He is a big help with opening and closing doors and drawers and turning off lights. He likes to see things in their proper places. He is also quite a friendly guy. When he saw Daddy saying hello to friends at church, he stood up and extended his hand to all the men that Daddy shook hands with. During greeting time at church, he went over to different pews in front and shook hands with many and came back. After church, he is always hanging out with guys who are just a little older than him and he just follows them around even though he doesn't interact with them much. He surprised us awhile ago by opening the fridge and getting water out of the water dispenser all by himself without spilling too much. He drinks his milk out of a cup very well and doesn't make any messes (even though he still is not too excited to eat his food sometimes...the only exception being his PB&J). We bought him a little booster seat so he sits at the table now. He is also almost potty trained and woke up dry each morning for the past couple of weeks. Starting the night of the 28th, he has been sleeping with just underwear and keeping it dry, exactly one month since we started potty training him.

I met Jonathan Philip Hughes at the hospital on September 24th.

Tirzah came down with a cold and wanted to sleep in the swing in that funny position. She also likes to cuddle with daddy!

Just after we came back from Maine, Tirzah started army crawling and she was pretty good at it (she had just turned 8 months). During Labor Day weekend, she started pulling herself up in her crib and at the coffee table (at 8 1/2 months). The first time we noticed was when Cameron went to settle her in her crib b'cos she had been crying for a long time; he found her standing in her crib but she didn't know how to sit down. She quickly got the art of sitting down and pulling herself up with ease. Before her 9 month B'day, she started crawling. At her 9th month appointment, she weighed 14 lbs. 6 oz. (10th percentile), measured 27" tall (35th percentile), and her head circumference was 43cm (25th percentile) and a few days later, she was standing pretty steady without holding on to anything (few days before she was 10 months). I was beginning to wonder if she would actually walk before her 1st B'day. Sure enough, she did! She was walking at 10 1/2 months. Her favorite thing to do is to shake her head as if to say 'no'. I'll blog about her one year update soon.

We had a fun evening with Rajeev and Tracy.

Tirzah and Vineetha enjoying the baby doll sent by Grampa and Nana

All three are busy with Vineetha's new toys! Vineetha was excited about her cake and candles on her B'day!

At her 2-year appointment, Vineetha weighed 25 lbs. (25th percentile), measured 34" tall (50th percentile) and her head circumference was 48cm (90th percentile). She talks quite a bit! When we celebrated her B'day, she was already repeating most of the words we say and actually using two words together in the proper order. She even said 'I cried' when her balloon popped. Now she is talking quite a bit and makes full sentences. She loves to read and sing. She plays well with her brother and sister and entertains them most of the time with all her crazy tricks. Her hair is getting long and thick and I'm resisting the temptation to cut it and patiently waiting for it grow out a little bit more so I can pull it back into a ponytail. She loves to cuddle with Mommy on the couch under the blanket as soon as she sees Mommy lay down. She loves to give us all hugs and calls us all by our names. Sometimes she seems ready to potty train but we really only have the facilities to train one at a time.

Phyllis threw a small baby shower for Sarah after Jonathan was born. Here she is holding her 11th grandchild. :)
