Growing Rewards

Vijay is now past 19 months and we had his 18month appointment with the doctor. I finally switched him to Vineetha's pediatrician and also the one to whom all my dear friends here take their babies. He is 34.5" tall (95%), weighs 27lb 9oz (65%), and his head measures 49-1/2cm (90%). He got two shots that day and he hardly cried. My dear friend Anita came along to help me and held him while he got his shots while I held fussy little Vineetha (she was hungry).

Vijay had been running around in the waiting room, grabbing everything that his eyes fell upon: sippy cups (not necessarily his own), pacifiers (ditto here), toys (and here), and purses (umm...not mine, either).

He takes only one nap now from 12 to 3pm and as I was first writing this post, he awoke and was talking away in his crib; that's his usual wake-up routine. He has 16 teeth now and the last two that came out gave him some trouble. Recently, he kept waking us in the middle of the night with blow-outs and had them for a couple of nights.

Here Vijay managed to climb into the rocking chair all by himself. We were eating dinner and he was off in his room and I went to find out what he was doing. He was just sitting there, so I ran to find the camera. He also like to climb into his old ExerSaucer, which is now set up for Vineetha's height, but he has trouble getting himself out by himself.

In another of his recent climbing escapades, he fell from the changing table and hurt himself badly. I held him for almost half an hour and wasn't sure if I should call the doctor. Sarah and Luke were on their way to visit, so I waited for her as I held him, and just before she came in, he threw up all over me and the couch. [Editor's Note: Sorry, no Pictures! :P ] I was glad to note that he felt much better after that and was ready to play as soon as he saw Luke--I was so relieved--and it was so helpful to have Sarah there with me. Thanks, Sarah!

Vijay is crazy about music these days. As soon as he wakes up, he points to the CD player asking it to be turned on. He play with the CD player and turns it off accidentally and then fusses about it when he can't hear any music. Sometimes that's also because he has taken the CD out and put it back in upside down. So, aside from his intervention, we have music playing in this house at any time.

Happy Vijay after his morning milk

Vineetha had her 6 month appointment on March 30th but I'm behind on updating our blog these days. She was 26" long (60%), weighs 15lb 3oz (50% I think, didn't write them down right away) and head measures 42.25cm (50%). Overall, she is on the smaller side--but who wants their girl to be big anyway? :) She rolls over back to front and stands up in the ExerSaucer and plays with toys. Two weeks ago today she figured out how to throw some consonants into her "speech" and just started babbling away. For the most part it sounds like she is saying 'mama' over and over again, but there is increasing variety as the days go by. We started giving her solids once she turned 6 months and she is already eating three times a day. She takes only two naps during the day (occasionally three) and goes down around 9pm. We still use the Pack-N-Play for her and bring it to the living room each night. We have tried a couple times to put them both in the same room but it hasn't worked out very well so we will wait few more weeks.

Here is Vineetha eating one of her early meals. We love the way the picture captures her looking into her mother's eyes. And next we have the bright smile which occupies her face for a good portion of each day. Finally, we have Daddy and daughter enjoying a little snuggle time.

There are so many cute moments that we treasure but unfortunately don't have pictures of. Here are a few brief stories.

I recently put Vineetha in the ExerSaucer and she was trying hard to put one of the toys in her mouth. Vijay thought it was so funny and he just kept laughing on and on. I wish I could have recorded it.

A couple of days ago, Vineetha was just laying on the couch and he came up to her and kissed her on her face four times. It was so cute.

The other day I was disciplining him for climbing up on the table and he followed me crying into the living room. He was still crying as I lay on the couch eyes closed; he gave me a kiss and continued to cry the whole while. He was such an adorable little bundle of self-pity.

We usually say 'good night' before we close his door and he responds by saying 'ni-night' back to us. A few days ago he actually said 'ni-night mama' and we were thrilled. He is lot more communicative these days and follows instructions pretty well. He says 'ba' for ball, 'ba ba' for 'bye bye', 'nana' for banana.

Little moments and changes like these make motherhood so delightful. I love being home with my little ones. Many of you ask me how I'm managing with two little ones and my answer is that God gives grace for each day and I enjoy the life He has given very much. We have routines that help keep our days organized. Vineetha wakes up whenever she hears Daddy getting ready for work (usually before 8) and Vijay wakes up around 8. I feed whoever wakes up first. Vineetha is usually ready to go back to sleep after eating and her morning nap goes until around 11. Vijay, however, eats his breakfast (a banana), drinks his milk, gets his diaper and clothing changed and he is all set to play until about 11:30. Just as his sister is getting up he eats lunch, drinks milk again, and goes down for his nap (usually from about 12 to 3). Vineetha goes down for her nap around 1:30 and wakes up around 3 as well, so I usually get a couple of hours when both are taking their naps to take care of myself and the home. While I make dinner I keep Vineetha in the swing so we can see each other as I get stuff done. Vijay usually eats a snack when he wakes up and plays with whatever his hands can find. He usually stays in the kitchen if I'm there and plays with recycling stuff or storage containers. By the time Cameron comes home, Vineetha is ready for her third nap, and he and I enjoy dinner together. If Vineetha takes a short nap, we sometimes go for a walk around the neighbourhood. That is my regular day for now; like anything in a growing family it is always subject to change. :D

Fantastic update. Vijay's a kick to play with, and I can see how he'd be a handful in an enclosed space!

Wow, I think this is the longest update since your blogging history. Thank you! I loved all the little tidbits about their growth and better yet, the cute stories for what each of them are learning or doing.

Sounds like you have a very good, stable routine for both kids which allows you time to rest (most importantly).

Your post reminds me of the days when Cam, Aimee, and Aaron were little-I loved every minute of it! The pictures are great, Jo-they are growing and changing with every post. Thank you for doing such a great job of keeping us (their long distance Nana and Grampa!) up to speed! Wish we could be closer (maybe in the future-if the Lord allows) :-)
