So while I've edited posts before, here is my first official post. Right now I'm sitting beside Jo's bed at Providence Holy Cross. What began this afternoon as a routine trip to Pasadena for an ultrasound became a redirection to the hospital for observation. The baby is fine and Jo is fine, but the amniotic fluid that cushions the baby (and its umbilical lifeline) is running a little low.
They've got a fetal heart monitor on Jo's belly and an intravenous drip to try and hydrate her body. They aren't sure if the problem is dehydration so they will hydrate via IV and observe for 72 hours to see if the fluid level improves.
We also found out that at this time the baby is completely breeched. If they determine that the fluid level problems cannot be corrected, the baby will have to be delivered early via C-section. They have already administered the first half of a steroid treatment to ensure that the baby's lungs develop sufficiently in case that is necessary. We would prefer for Jo to deliver the baby naturally, but obviously that may not be God's plan. We rest in the knowledge that he holds our child in his hands and will wait and see the outworking of His plan.
